Q1.         What is meant by Moen-jo-Daro and where is Moen-jo-Daro situated?

Ans.      Moen-jo-Daro means the mound of the dead. It is one of the oldest cities in the world. Moen-jo-Daro is situated at the distance of 27 kilometers from Larkana on the right bank of the river Indus.

 Q2.        What were the occupations of the people of Moen-Jo-Daro?

Ans.      i.     The people of Moen-Jo-Daro were traders. They traded with other cities and traveled from place to place for
                        Business.
ii.     They were skilled craft men who worked with gold and silver.
iii.    They were farmers who grew wheat, rice and cotton and they also kept cattle.

Q3.         What do you know about the houses and streets of Moen-jo-Daro?

Ans.      Each house was made of a large baked bricks and had a bathroom and a servant quarter close by. The streets were straight and were made of baked bricks. Covered drains ran beside the streets

Ans.      Sir John Marshall was an English civil servant whose work was to look after the historical
 remains like ancient buildings and other old things. The Moen-jo-Daro was discovered in 1922.

Ans.      When the pieces of old bricks were brought the Sir John Marshall said that “Perhaps there was once a city or a town which is under these mounds of clay and sand. Let us dig here; maybe we shall discover the remains of an old city”.

Ans.      We can say that the people of Moen-jo-Daro were great traders because the river Indus is to near. The country must have been fertile since wheat, rice and cotton grew there.

Ans.      The things which are on exhibition in the museum, includes seals, jewelry, weapons toys and a statue of a dancing girl.  The best found of Moen-jo-Daro is the head of bull which was used as a seal.

Ans.      Nobody knew that what happened to the city. Either they were raided from the north or some great earthquake destroyed them.

Ans.      They lived a happy life. They were quite rich and traveled place to place on business or on pleasure. If the language experts are able to decipher the words written on the seals and pottery. We can know more about them.
